Beaming Images into your brain

Glasses that beam images into your BRAIN: Laser 'prints' photos from a connected camera directly onto the wearer's retina


  • Photos taken by the camera are projected onto the retina with little lasers

  • Glasses are expected to be widely available by the end of next year 

  • Wearables could also be used as 'smart glasses' for augmented reality

  • The glasses are safe because the amount of light coming from the mini-lasers is no more than what would enter people's eyes in normal conditions



Google tried, and seemingly failed, to encourage people to wear miniature screens on its Google Glass headsets. 

But a firm in Japan still believes such wearable technology can be popular. if the display is replaced by a laser.

By bypassing the front of the wearer's eye, the laser in the QD Laser glasses project the light from an image straight onto their retina.   

And the glasses could be (widely) available by the end of next year. 

A Japanese company called QD Laser in collaboration with the University of Tokyo has developed a pair of glasses that come with a tiny camera that captures data and a laser that prints imagery from the camera directly onto the retina
