Apple TV

This is interesting language about Apple TV that I have seen in multiple places. If the processor were being simply made faster, the device would still be only a set-top box.

Questions I've had:

  • Would Apple create an Apple TV with some kind of computer operating system?
  • Why didn't Apple make the latest Apple TV (released very recently) a 4K resolution device?
So, make of this what you will, check the article out at the source.

Idigitaltimes

“Apple is planning to adopt a new CPU for the fifth-generation Apple TV to dramatically improve the device's hardware performance and will add new functions to help it no longer serve only as a set-top box (STB).”

“The fifth-generation Apple TV will come into trial production in December and volume production in the first quarter of 2016.”

Telegraph Times
"The report also adds that, in addition to the revamped CPU, the next-generation Apple TV is also expected to gain "new functions", though DigiTimes doesn't provide further details on what these new functions are, or what they might relate to.
